Kara Burrowes

Internal Spaces
Burrowes incorporates found materials, textiles, photography and drawing in her paintings, to create works that carry a distinctly sculptural quality.
Weaving together personal narratives, peripheral observations and fleeting memories, Burrowes explores themes of longing, identity and the transience of time. Materials, both found and made, are reimagined through processes, to reveal beauty and meaning in unexpected places.
Repetition and accumulation her practice is guided by intuition and material response. Burrowes process can involve a sense of unrestrained urgency, with surfaces disrupted by stitch, stain or erasure, leaving behind a quiet record of truth and history.
