Anita DeSoto was the Artist in Residence for Stoddart Cottage Gallery in 2025. Her exhibition, She Does Not Fit the Frame, was commenced during her residency.

Anita DeSoto is an Otepoti/Dunedin artist with 25 years experience exhibiting nationally and internationally. Anita holds a Master of Fine Arts and has taught Drawing and Painting at the Dunedin School of Art, Otago Polytechnic, since 2004. Anita has received major residencies and fellowships, including the Leipzig International Art Program (Germany), Aratoi Fellowship, New Pacific Studios (San Francisco) and the William Hodges Fellowship. Anita’s work is held in public collections including the Southland Art Foundation, Pah Homestead, Auckland, and Anderson Park Public Gallery, Invercargill.

Anita’s painting practice critically re-examines women’s histories and their marginalisation within art history.
