Stoddart Cottage and its Contemporaries –Threatened by Their Environments. Tim Holmes is a conservation architect and photographer. Within his photography practice Holmes captures heritage buildings and sites threatened by their environment. Holmes’ work considers themes of threat, risk, or pivotal points in time when diagnosis are being made or steps taken toward repair and re-use.
Holme’s silver gelatin photographs are made in a fully analogue process on 5x4” and 10x8” film, hand processed and printed by the artist and mounted in recycled 19 th and 20 th Century timber frames. The exhibition features a number of buildings Holmes has encountered in his profession as a heritage architect, including Stoddart Cottage. Holmes’ considers the threat posed by the gum trees surrounding the Cottage, which were planted in the 1800’s as a wind break.
